11 It was so, that whenever the chest was brought to the king's officers by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the king's scribe and the chief priest's officer came and emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to its place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.

The king's scribe came and emptied - Rather, "the king's scribe came and they emptied" etc. i. e. the Levites who brought the chest from the temple emptied it in the presence of the scribe.
Now it came to pass, that at what time (e) the chest was brought unto the king's office by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that [there was] much money, the king's scribe and the high priest's officer came and emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to his place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.
(e) Such as were faithful men whom the king had appointed for that matter.
Now it came to pass, that at what time the chest was brought unto the king's office by the hand of the Levites,.... The place where his officer or officers met, appointed for this service; very probably in one of the chambers of the temple,

came and emptied the chest; poured out the money, and told it, and put it up in bags, 2-Kings 12:10 and took it, and carried it to its place again, 2-Chronicles 24:8, by the hands of the Levites that brought it:

and gathered money in abundance; enough to repair the house, ornament it, and furnish it with vessels that were wanting.
וגו יביא בּעת ויהי, translate: It came to pass at the time when they brought the chest to the guard of the king by the Levites, i.e., to the board of oversight appointed by the king from among the Levites. עת stat. constr. before a sentence following. בּכום ליום does not denote every day, but every time when there was much money in the chest.
