31 The sons of Appaim: Ishi. The sons of Ishi: Sheshan. The sons of Sheshan: Ahlai.
*Minor differences ignored. Grouped by changes, with first version listed as example.
And the sons of Appaim; Ishi. And the sons of Ishi; Sheshan. And the children of Sheshan; (k) Ahlai.
(k) Who died while his father was alive, and therefore it is said in (1-Chronicles 2:34) that Sheshan had no sons.
And the sons of Appaim; Ishi. And the sons of Ishi: Sheshan,.... Though they had each of them but one son, yet the plural number is used, their posterity being included, as in 1-Chronicles 2:8 and so in the next clause:
and the children of Sheshan; Ahlai; who, from 1-Chronicles 2:34 appears to be a daughter.
The sons - An expression often used in prophane authors too, where there is but one son.
